Ulster County Highway 42 is a great drive in a wooded mountain setting. The highlights are the many waterfalls you can see from the road. Several of these have parking areas, and this road is not very well known. That translates to parking areas with places where you can actually park.

 

Bastion Falls is right on NY highway 23-A.

Walk past Bastion Falls and the path will take you to the highest waterfall in the state of New York.

No, not Niagara Falls, but Kaaterskill Falls, mentioned in Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving back in 1819.
